Marital Humor

A few minutes before the church services started, the congregation was seated and talking. Suddenly, Satan appeared at the front of the church. Everyone started screaming and running for the exits, trampling each other in a frantic effort to get away from evil incarnate.

Soon the church was empty except for one elderly gentleman who sat calmly in his pew without moving, seemingly oblivious to the fact that God's ultimate enemy was in his presence.

So Satan walked up to the man and said, 'Do you know who I am?'

The man replied, 'Yep, sure do.'

'Aren't you afraid of me?' Satan asked.

'Nope, sure ain't.' said the man.

'Don't you realize I can kill you with one word?' asked Satan.

'Don't doubt it for a minute,' returned the old man, in an even tone.

'Did you know that I can cause you profound, horrifying AGONY for all eternity?' persisted Satan.

'Yep,' was the calm reply.

'And you are still not afraid?' asked Satan.

'Nope,' said the old man.

More than a little perturbed, Satan asked, 'Why aren't you afraid of me?'

The man calmly replied, 'Been married to your sister for 48 years.”

  Ouch!!!!

A Lesson From The Joke

Lesson 1

I will start by giving you the scripture below. Don't blame me, these are verses straight from Proverbs. God said them, not me!

Proverbs 21:9

It is better to live in a corner of a roof Than in a house shared with a contentious woman.

Proverbs 21:19

It is better to live in a desert land Than with a contentious and vexing woman.

Proverbs 25:24

It is better to live in a corner of the roof Than in a house shared with a contentious woman.

Lesson 2

The second lesson is that while Satan can take your life, he can only do so if God allows him to as witnessed by the scriptures from Job.

Job 1:6-12

6Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and £Satan also came among them. 7The LORD said to Satan, “From where do you come?” Then Satan answered the LORD and said, “From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it.” 8The LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil.” 9Then Satan answered the LORD, “Does Job fear God for nothing? 10“Have You not made a hedge about him and his house and all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. 11“But put forth Your hand now and touch all that he has; he will surely curse You to Your face.” 12Then the LORD said to Satan, “Behold, all that he has is in your power, only do not put forth your hand on him.” So Satan departed from the presence of the LORD.

Now you might just be wondering why God would allow Satan to do this to anyone, even more so Job, since God said that Job was a righteous man.  God does all that He does to bring glory to His name.  It is simultaneously a simple answer and a very profound one.  Consider that all that has happened to you that God allowed.  it was to bring glory to His name.

Right about now, when I am having this conversation with someone and they want to continue to pound on the "WHY ME", I simply refer them to Job 38-42.  Will you dare to question God?  If so read Job 38-42.  And you thought this was just a joke.  You should know me better than that.
