![]() So how do I explain "Opanah kakaia yah?" This is a New Year's Eve skit and Andy is playing the part of a very large beet. Chris is farmer Ivan, Sveta is the farmer's wife and Angie is the farmer's daughter. They are all helping Chris pull the big beet out of the ground. Every time the director of the skit points to Andy, he must very proudly say "Opanah kakaia yah", to which the Russians just crack up. The reason? Among others, since the word for beet is feminine, Andy is literally saying "Look at me I am a very large "girl" beet." Had Andy known what he was saying beforehand he might have given the part to Chris. This is New Year's Eve in the church in Karabanovo and things are really getting wild. :) |
